Cautionary tale and some sound advice

I had an iron fitting, a wedge fitting and a putter fitting in 2017 and finished up the entire bag in 2018 . I purchased the irons, putter and wedges. They arrived two weeks later. Let me preface this by saying I play a lot of golf usually over 100 rounds a year. My last index was 6.1. I had never been fitted before.
From the day I started playing the new irons I saw NO distance gains. The pitching wedge actually lost distance according to my GPS . Fitting had led me to believe I would gain 15-20 yards. I struggled with them trying to get the extra yardage. No luck. They were no improvement over my five year old Cobra's. I returned to Club Champion and they were unable to reproduce my earlier results nor fit me with some different irons, although if I recall we didn't even try to find new clubs. Mind you I even paid extra to have the shafts "Pured" in an effort to add distance. Researching later I could find no empirical evidence that puring does anything other than take $30/ per club out of your wallet. I am not trying to say CC is dishonest. I only want to point out that sometimes things don't workout and you are stuck paying a lot of money for very little.
The putter helped my game and the wedges (Cleveland) were great.
I returned this year to fit the hybrids and driver. I'll never know if it was because of my dissatisfaction with the irons but after what seemed like only 10 swings my fitter said he could not improve on my hybrids or driver.
So I paid $350 for the fitting and $2500 for the clubs and got a good putter, great sand and lob wedge and little else. Because of my dissatisfaction CC refunded $300 Here's my advice.
1. Unless you can find evidence that Puring of shafts does anything helpful. skip it. A simple test that CC could perform would be to hit a club before and after puring. You have to ask why the inventor of this technology hasn't provided any data to back it up. Maybe because there isn't any?
2. Before commiting to a set of irons go ahead and have your favorite single iron put together and see if you are happy with the results. You can always get the rest of the set later. Some reviewers claim prices at CC are identical to what you would find on the internet. That wasn't my experience. The internet price was $30 less than what I paid CC for the same shaft. Do a price comparison before purchasing.
I will say like other reviewers that there was no pressure to buy anything. And I want to repeat that while I had a negative experience plenty of reviewers state just the opposite.
