We had a small flood under our kitchen sink and our insurance company, USAA, referred us to Jim Black Construction for the repairs. When we hired them, we thought it would be a relatively simple and small job. But one thing led to another and it ended up being a huge project. Throughout the whole process, everyone from Jim Black Construction was professional and polite. They came when they said they would come. They finished when they said they would be finished. They did not leave a mess, and they did a very good job. Our house is an open floor plan, so when the flood damaged the floors in the kitchen, all the floors on the main level had to be refinished. When the flood mitigation team hung plastic sheeting from the ceiling it left staple marks, so the whole ceiling had to be repaired and repainted. As long as all our furniture was moved out of the house, I had them repaint all the walls. Then they discovered that the water had leaked down into the basement laundry room. When they started repairing that ceiling, the construction crew discovered asbestos tiles. So they retiled the entire ceiling and repainted that room. They brought in additional people to move everything. Then they had cleaners come in at the end because there was dust everywhere. I was impressed that everyone I dealt with was pleasant and we were able to communicate well. Our original claim was filed in January, but by the time the work started, COVID-19 restrictions had taken effect and the workers complied with masks and gloves. We were also able to stay compliant with distancing by being downstairs while they were upstairs working. Another thing I really appreciated was that they dealt directly with the insurance company. Everything was covered. I even had two change orders that they were able to fit into the insurance claim. I was happy to not be in the middle! All the work they did inspired us to continue renovating upstairs on the bedroom level. It feels like a brand-new house, thanks to Jim Black Construction.
