Did what was needed; didn't sell unnecessary work
My old car needed muffler work and I asked them to check an engine smell. They did the muffler work just fine... they said the engine smell marks a longer term issue (maybe very long term!)... but they told me what to keep my eye (and nose) on it in case it develops further. They could, I guess, have recommended a big repair but instead invited me to use my head. That's good!
