ATA College

Save your money

Let me start by saying, I went to ATA twice and the first experience was wonderful.
However when I came back to lpn, I was highly disappointed. Where do I start? First off, their expensive as all get out not to mention the "general" fee that they decided to charge all students in the middle of my program (along with all the other student attending ) I don't know why we get charged a general fee. I can't get a straight answer from anybody. I was also told that this general fee of $200 each quarter (every 10 weeks) COULD NOT come from my financial aid, it MUST come from my pocket.. but that makes me question whose pocket is this money going into. I was also told that if I could pay half of what I owed in general fees before May 1st, I could walk at graduation and the other half would get written off.. well why can't all of it be written off?

Secondly, your credits WILL NOT transfer ANYWHERE. Even classes like anatomy and physiology. They won't tell you that during admissions, which is why I decided to go back to ATA in the first place. I even had plans to go through their bridge program but my plans changed shortly after all the nonsense that happened during my time there.

The clinicals are a joke. We went to a nursing home for 4 hours, took a couple blood pressures and left. It was a waste of time. I couldn't used that time to continue teaching myself.

Annnnndd that brings me to my next complaint. The instructors some were great, and others were rude and hateful. I taught myself more than my own instructors did.
I'm sure your wondering "why didn't you say something to someone if you were struggling?" Well, because we did but nothing changed so I stopped asking for help.

When you get done with the nursing program, you are "required" to go to a 4-6 week "nclex" prep class before your name will even get released to the board of nursing. Needless to say, I've been done for a month and JUST received my provisional license.

ATA claims that the class schedules are flexible.. that's the biggest lie I've ever heard. They are far from flexible. The other programs have day and night options (8am-12pm) or 5pm-9pm.. the nursing program doesn't offer night classes.
You get one time frame 8am-12pm . That's it.

I hope my review will save some poor soul from wasting so much time and money at ata.
