Air Current Inc

Not Good

Around March of 2016, I reached out to Air Current Inc to have my HVAC system completely retrofitted. It was a middle-of-the-road estimate. They came out and installed my system. Within three months, the unit started sweating, it was making loud noises whenever it turned on or shut off, and mold began growing around. They over-sized the system. I have them come out, only to say it was my fault that the unit was acting up. It was a horse-hockey excuse. But, they said they would try to repair the problem. In November of that same year, they completely re-did the unit. No result came of it, because the issues started again. The following spring, in 2017, they came out and did it again. Then they came out later in the year, again, to no avail. They reworked the box, extended it so the air handler would underneath the unit, but it would still sweat. At one point the compressor from the outside unit had gone out. It was under warranty, but I still had to pay. The unit is not even 4 years old and it's had nothing but issues. The last time I spoke to them, they told me they were not doing this anymore. I will give them credit, they were persistent. Jim DeMarco, in particular, was exemplary. He is credible, knows what he's doing, but I don't know if his hands are tied, or what. Even a representative from Ruud, the manufacturer of the unit, came out and inspected the unit, only to say there was no issue with the system. I have pictures of the unit sweating, and videos of all three times they tried to re-install the system. There is not enough communication, and there are no results. I'm not asking for a freebie. It costs me every time they come out. I just want it fixed right.

We took out a 5 ton system and installed a 5 ton system. Yes the unit was sweating in the garage. We redid the melted duct work /mastic to make it look clean and neat at no charge to customer. He told us he would build a room around the system to keep it in a cool space. Customer did not do the room so it got sweaty again so we moved the system over to give it more return and direct supply to duct work to see if that would help with the sweating. We had the Ruud manufacture out to see if they could see any reason to the sweating but they readings all checked out they said that its in a non air conditioned space and it will sweat. We got a call for a reversing valve that was stuck and we were able to unstick the valve. The homeowner hired a non licensed contractor to install the valve and he really hacked it into the system and even broke a line going to the thermo expansion valve. One month later his compressor went out. We were able to get the parts under the manufacture warranty and we gave him a really fair price to change out both parts. His home is large and it was sized for a 5 ton and that is what was in the home and that is what we replaced it with. The growth of mildew on the mastic that seals the air handler to the ductwork is a common issue in florida. A solution of bleach and water will clean that off the mastic. A permit was pulled and the system was inspected by the city also. A certain amount of sweating will occur. The air handler gets really cold and then the very hot garage causes condensation. 2600 square foot home required a 5 ton when built and replaced with 5 ton.
