Front desk girl and man were extremely rude.

We set up a 10:30 2 hour tour, WITH THE UNDERSTANDING that we were to arrive 1hr prior. We are never late for any event and strive to arrive early whenever possible, but due to circumstances beyond our control, we arrived at the check in desk at 9:45. We were the first people in the group of 6 scheduled to go out that day to arrive at the desk. We were treated very rudely during check-in—I asked the unsmiling girl behind the counter if I could rent a coat and she literally rolled her eyes at me and huffed off to get one. I asked the man behind the counter, if I had time to run to the machine and purchase 2 bottles of water and his response was, “Well, if you HURRY UP!” I literally ran down the stairs to get the water. When I came straight back, he started shoving the sign in papers at us to sign.
At this point, I looked at the clock and said, “It’s only 10:05?” He snapped back and told me, “You were SUPPOSED to be here at 9:30!” By this time, I was so upset and embarrassed from the way we were being treated, that my hands were shaking so badly I could hardly sign my name on the credit card payment. (Seriously, at this point, we should have just left.)
We were curtly led to the gondola along with another couple. Once we got to the top, everything slowed down and was totally relaxed and pleasant.
My question is, why were we treated so badly when it was obvious we were trying our best to make up for lost time?
Why were the 2 people in the office so mean to us?
I understand things have to run on schedule, and some people certainly try to bend the rules to accommodate themselves, but this wasn’t what we were trying to do—we simply could not get up the mountain due to the traffic, and we didn’t know we needed to use valet parking.
There were no more groups scheduled after us, and only 4 other were nice people who expressed their surprise over how we were treated.
Can someone please explain to me, if there’s only 1 group going out that day, why were the 2 employees in the office in a panic to push us on the gondola?
What was supposed to be a fun, relaxing day—was actually a nightmare due to the way we were treated and disrespected.
