Mr Hardwood Inc

Didn't meet expectations

I had 1000 sq ft of Aurora 5" engineered hardwoods installed as a floating floor and 36 sq ft of tile installed. Everyone I dealt with was initially friendly and helpful but I had to frequently remind them and ask about a tile install date. None of the installers seem to be on Mr. Hardwood payroll so you're dealing with a middle man for actually getting the work done. I wasn't pleased with needing to actively manage the company I was paying to make sure the work was scheduled but it wasn't a nightmare either. The hardwood installers were friendly and fast but it seems they were fast to a fault. They were clearly skilled in their trade but there are a lot of gaps in the joints where you can see the tongue of the hardwoods. They "fixed" a portion of them with wood putty (I don't see how this will be a lasting fix as the hardwoods expand and contract with the seasons) then said they couldn't do anymore because it would take too long. The installers blamed it on the floors; they either weren't straight because they were cheap or that they shouldn't be floated. I purchased the floors via Mr. Hardwood specifically for floating and Aurora doesn't list much product info on their website so I don't know what's true on that. As for not being straight, I ended up with 2 extra boxes of boards left they could have picked from if a board really wasn't straight. When they called me to ask for final payment, I mentioned the gaps and they said they would send someone to putty the rest. I paid them and never heard from them again. The tile installer did a really nice job but didn't grout the top of the splash guard as we had requested during the initial sale. He didn't speak much English and I don't speak much Spanish so we weren't able to get this corrected. Overall, I've rated them "fair" because the price was competitive, the installers were quick and everyone seemed to want to help but fell short on their commitments. If they ever send me the warranty information (anyone using them in the future, I don't recommend giving final payment without getting the warranty at the same time because I've yet to get the warranty paperwork) I'll see if it covers trying to mask the issues with the install and update this review with how they handle it. I would consider using them for an income property or a quick flip due to price and speed but I won't be using them when I decide to replace the carpet on my second floor with hardwoods. The quality of the work isn't good enough for me to live with it on a daily basis. Based on their past reviews I hope I'm a victim of bad luck and future customers have a better experience.
