Capri: An Excellent Option

I tried to read as much about The Capri Clinic and its personnel before signing up for my recent procedure, but was a little concerned as there’s actually not much recent info out there about them on social media and the internet. I’m trying to correct that issue.

I am a surgeon myself from suburban NYC and have spent the last few years investigating options to revise, camouflage, and correct two old-style hair transplantations and several scalp-reduction procedures (neither of these techniques are done anymore, and for good reason) from the late 1980s.

I was drawn to Capri from their website, through my discussions with their Medical Director (Tim Claxton), and, of course, their relatively affordable price. Tim, by the way, is responsive, available, and quite knowledgeable … he’s a pleasure to deal with.

My procedure (at their Bansalem, PA facility) was only four days ago, so this is obviously not a review of my outcome (I’ll hopefully be writing more about that in a few months) … this is more about the people and the facility, which is what I was initially most worried about. As a physician and surgeon myself for the last 20 years, I care most about the background, expertise, and technical skill of the surgeon … and almost as important, those of his/her assistants.

Although I went into this a little scared about those issues (even having done as much research as I could ahead of time, but that’s difficult from so far away), I can say that I was very impressed … and relieved. Dr. Antonov is skilled, intelligent, and expertly experienced in the intricacies of this demanding and artistic work. He is personable, thoughtful, and a competent communicator. The facility itself (which, frankly, I was worried about when I caught a glimpse of its sign on Googlemaps) is clean, up to date, effective, roomy, and contains appropriate medical and monitoring equipment. And, more important than patients typically know, the three assistants, technicians, nurses (not sure of actual titles) who helped with my 5½-hour tedious procedure, were all incredible. They were intelligent, likable, entertaining, good with music taste and trivia, and, most relevant, extremely skillful in their vitally important roles in this procedure. Frieda, Lisi, and Latiesha were all excellent, and they made an anxious day much more enjoyable and tolerable than expected.

In terms of the procedure itself (again, it was only four days ago), following Tim’s advice and instructions post-operatively is quite helpful. He gives you paperwork with clear post-op directions as well as pain meds, antibiotics, and anti-inflammatories (actual pills, not prescriptions … a real convenience and a mild cost-savings). I purchased the additional post-op care package for the surgical site as it seemed like a reasonable approach medically and seems to be working just fine. I will say that the first 2-3 nights, sleeping was an issue as there is certainly some (expected) post-op pain, swelling, and discomfort and trying to find a comfortable position for your head is an issue … I finally was able to do so in a semi-reclined position in a reclining chair, using a rolled towel around the base of my neck.

From what I can tell this early on, Dr. Antonov and the Capri staff seem to have done an excellent job organizing and executing our surgical goals … but I’ll hopefully write more about this when I see more final results. For now, rest assured that Capri is an excellent and affordable option for this type of work and I was wholly impressed.
