Long distance move? Find someone else

Everything started out nice when John came over to do inventory in person. The other companies all did it over the phone. The quote I was given was well on par with the other ones I had received as well so it seemed right to go with them. Once pick up day happened everything took a turn. 3 guys showed up, two to pack and move, and one to do paperwork. The guy doing paperwork, Sean, was rather full of himself and acted as if he owned everything and even commanded me to go vacuum my room. While doing paperwork with him there was all of a sudden a $500 fee on top of the original quote. When I asked he told me it was because of a fuel surcharge and packing materials. I had read over the paperwork, even had others more experienced in moving read over the paperwork, and nobody saw the Hidden writing about fuel surcharge. $150 for packing materials, which was 2 tall boxes and about 5 feet worth of bubble wrap seemed a bit extensive. But Sean was rather pushy and wanted all the paperwork done so he could sit in the van and wait for the 2 guys to finish.

We were given a window of Jan 5 - Jan 15th for delivery day and promised a 48 hour notice before drop off. We called almost every day to figure out where my things were since I travel a lot for work and my girlfriend is a teacher. She would need the 48 hour notice so she could coordinate to have the day off. On top of all of this we had a weekend trip planned 5 days after the 15th to make sure we gave them extra time for delivery. We were upfront about this as well and they assured us everything would be good and if not they would work with us.

My belongings were not picked up until the 14th in Texas to be transported to Florida. Therefore they would be late and past the window they gave us. We waited for our phone call from the truck driver for the 48 hour notice and he didn’t call until 24 hours out for our things to be delivered the day we were suppose to leave for our trip. At that point it was easy to push back a day, with great hesitation of course, but doable. Then the truck broke down 2 hours out from us causing another days worth of delay. At that point Texas movers group started putting blame on us, they weren’t willing to work with us as promised, and their story changed on the 48 hour notice as well as what caused the delay for pick up in Texas.

We cancelled our trip and once the truck finally showed up they left tape and wrappings outside in bushes and plants, they cracked my dining chair leg when putting it together and just said oops, snapped the backing of my living room chair, as well as chipped some higher priced art.

We were told we would receive a check in the mail with return money of $30 per day for each day they were late. It’s been over a month now since they delivered my stuff and we have yet to see a check. If you’re moving cross country, don’t waste your time and money on them.
