The only reason Martin RV Rentals doesn't get a one-star rating from me is because they gave us a partial refund for our troubles. Additionally, they helped us a lot with the initial setup. That's where the good service stopped. My family is brand-new to RVing and we are planning to purchase an RV in January. So we wanted to try one out for ourselves. We went in person to Martin RV Rentals to talk to someone and see the units for ourselves before renting. The model we liked had a Murphy bed which would accommodate our now one-year-old baby. So we went ahead and arranged for a rental. But when we got there to pick it up, the unit being held for us didn't have a Murphy bed. The girl who did the walkaround with us said that there are three different models and not all of them are the same. This was news to us and we tried to switch to a model with the extra bed but none were available. That was the first strike. The next item on the walkaround was the refrigerator. It had a broken handle and required a screwdriver to open the door. By now, the first girl had given us over to the tow attachment guy. He tried to find an extra refrigerator handle, but none were available, so he left us with a screwdriver. Strike two and we hadn't even left the lot. There was a run-through of all the electric items and the toilet. However, nothing was explained fully and we ran into problems that are considered common in the RV world but were new to us, particularly with the toilet odor and flushing. Fortunately, my dad is an experienced RVer and clued us in on some of it. We would have bought the extra supplies had we known. The one guy who was fantastic was Conway. He really helped us. Martin RV Rentals also did an outstanding job cleaning the RV because when I cleaned and sanitized it myself before leaving our house, my rags remained clean. So we left and got as far as Pigeon Forge, Tennessee before our next problem. Our son was in a Pack 'n Play at the foot of our bed directly under the air conditioner vent. I had already noticed that I was feeling a little bit nasally and turned off some of the A/C vents, a common cause. But the whole family started feeling sicker and sicker. Three days later, our son woke up screaming in his crib and I found him soaking wet. The A/C was leaking condensation right onto him. There were puddles everywhere. I tried calling Martin RV Rentals immediately and I had to chase them down to get a call back. They advised us to lower the A/C or maybe take out the filter for the time being. When I removed the filter, it was crusted with grime and dust. I cleaned and disinfected it. Again, we would have bought a new one from Martin RV if they had given us the option. We all instantly felt better. If I call this a comedy of errors, I'm being kind. Any one thing by itself would have been bad, but all of them together was terrible. We were very disappointed and there was lots of yelling. I didn't feel like a valued customer. Here we were, seriously thinking about buying and they failed. I hoped that maybe the sales arm would treat us differently from the rental arm but I was wrong. I was told that the model we wanted wasn't available during these crazy times. I called repeatedly after that and never got called back. They totally missed out on a sale. Not to mention that my brother just bought a new RV a month ago and my dad is in the market to replace his model. Two more lost sales. What a missed opportunity for Martin RV. When we do buy at the beginning of next year it won't be with them. I'm in sales myself and saw serious failures in their customer service. We just wanted to be acknowledged and feel like they cared about us. Maybe, this feedback will help Martin RV Rentals turn unhappy customers into lifelong customers.
