all about the money.

First of all, let me start by saying I carry insurance on my pets money wouldn't stop me from caring correctly for my pets.

We brought our 2 year old beagle mix in for a late night eval due to several days of being unable to keep his food down. He does have a history of chronic vomiting about once every month or so. 2 day episodes. My dog also has a bad habit of putting his noes where it doesn't belong. With all that said. 3 days and nights of this I was a little worried and decided it was better we take him. "Better safe than sorry," motto. We get there around 11:30pm and are told it would be $104.00 dollars just to get into the door. (which I expected coming in late night hours.) FINE. Just check out my puppy. So they take my dog back, check his vitals, if he is dehydrated, temp, abdominal tenderness, weight... blah blah blah. Everything is normal per examination and physical test results. The Dr. comes in (nice) but before actually telling me any of those things advises me that they'd like to keep him over night. -- I said what's wrong, why?! They told me so they could monitor him over night. Again, I said for what would you need to monitor him overnight for? Again they gave me no indicators that would urge me as the caretaker to have my dog stay. They finally got around to telling me so that they could give inject him with medication INCASE he can't keep the oral medication down. I asked shouldn't we try the oral medication first before jumping into an extended and expensive over night stay? The response I receive was, "sure we could." She say's ,"we'd like to do an xray." I then ask if they think he may have swallowed a foreign body? She said nothing we've encountered during his exam would lead us to believe that there is an obstruction. I said so why recommend an xray at this point? Then she says we could preform an ultra sound. I again say-- but if you don't think its anything more that an upset stomach due to something he ate and no serious underlying issue at this point why would we do an ultra sound? She said well we could start with oral medication and see how he does in a few days??? Basically the Dr. started high and worked her way down. Thought she found an opportunity to extort money out of people trying to do their best to provide a safe and loving home for their pets. I felt she was only concerned with money. I was doing all the investigation, I was pulling answers out of her. Will not be going back.
