Dr. Tina Jackson (THE WORST)

I would NEVER go back to Carolina Vet Specialist ever again. (2225 Township Rd
Charlotte, NC 28273) I have a 12.5yr old blind, diabetic labradoodle that had diarrhea and was vomiting for 24hrs. She had gotten into a sausage egg and cheese (as well as the tinfoil wrapper) and I was concerned that caused her issues. There was blood in the stool and I was concerned bc it was after hours and I didn’t want her to have a horrible night. Our regular vet who we LOVE recommended this place. We show up at 8pm. The front desk and tech individuals were very pleasant. It was not busy (Sunday night) and I called ahead and they had a room ready for us. They ran a full blood panel and did an ultrasound wanted to check for ketones in case it was diabetic ketoacidosis. I didn’t see the doc and get the blood panel back until 10:30pm. She asked to do one more test to check for the pancreas and I asked her if I could have five minutes to consult with a friend who was a vet surgeon that I had been talking to about Kona today. She was clearly VERY perturbed but said she would return in 10 min or whenever I told the front desk I was ready. She said I could hospitalize her overnight to give her fluids or they could tell me what to do as an outpatient. I NEVER saw her again that evening. After getting back a negative result for pancreatitis (at midnight) and talking to my friend who was a vet (and factoring the costs of an overnight hospital stay for my pup) I decided to bring her home to care for her with medicine they gave me, continuing to monitor her glucose as that was incredibly high. The vet tech (Courtney who was wonderful) came in at 12:30am to explain all the medicine they prescribed and as I was trying to write all the info down, she assured me I would get discharge papers explaining everything in detail. There was a lot to process and options for various methods for the medicines. I went to pay and then remained in the lobby until 1am waiting for discharge papers, unaware I would not get them that night. Courtney assured me I would get them by the am though.

*note- my 12.5 yr old diabetic pup had glucose as high as 600 there and they didn’t give her any insulin or iv fluids from 8-1am. They indicated they couldn’t unless she was hospitalized overnight.

All that said, by 9:15am when I hadn’t gotten discharge papers explaining everything and had three different new medicines they prescribed I was trying to administer (as well as her usual daily insulin) and understand as well as trying to do at home glucose monitoring (new to me) I called the hospital. Dr. Jackson was incredibly rude and short. When she was rattling off different meds I asked if I could pull over my car to write it all down so to not mess anything up. She then belittled me and informed me she was at the end of her shift and “what do I not understand, just read the back of the box or bottle.” She then proceeded to hang up the phone on me and email me a factually inaccurate discharge paper with little to no description about the full extent of my conversations with her and her two techs I interacted with last night.

Needless to say- $1000 down and while I have some meds for my pup, the vet hospital is garbage and Dr. Tina Jackson is horrific. One would think they would want to work with people who love and care for their pets enough to understand all the matters at hand and make informed decisions, but clearly this lady is just over her job! DO NOT ever go to CAROLINA VET SPECIALIST in Steele creek or see Dr. Tine Jackson if you care about your pets!
