Deck not holding up
I had Montell build a deck 2 springs ago. I always wait a few years on construction jobs before giving a review because the real test is how long something will last.
First, they started earlier than scheduled, which you may think is a good thing, but it is surprising to walk out to go to work and find a bunch of strangers in your driveway. Had they been 15 minutes later we would have missed each other completely. The workers said the job would only take a few days. It took them a few weeks. Now I was in no rush to get it done, but I believe there were many days that no one showed up. (I understand that they are probably working several jobs at once, but quoting a few days should be completed in no more than a week)
The deck seemed well built but now that it has gone through a few winters, boards are starting to creak, and some of the board now have gouges from the furniture legs. I do not have a big family, nor do I hold large deck parties. This deck is very lightly used. I feel it should be holding up better than this.
Also, I would be suspicious on any of the 5-star reviews. The last thing the workers said to me is “if we get a 5-star review, we get a bonus.” So they try the old emotional blackmail trick to get better reviews than they should get.
