I presented a dog bite in the ER, with a skin abrasion and some bleeding. No one cleaned the abrasion. (I had already cleaned it at home and had applied liquid iodine).

The medical person prescribed an antibiotic tablet, but instead of writing a prescription that I could fill immediately at a local pharmacy, the prescriber chose to use a mail-order pharmacy, Optum RX. If he felt I should have an antibiotic, why make me wait several days for delivery by mail?

As it turned out, Optum RX needed an update to my on-line account Profile. So i tried and failed to accomplish that update. Casting about, I phoned my local pharmacy and gave them the RX number, asking them to intervene with Optum to arrange the prescription to be transferred to them.

Now, 2 days after the dog bite, I have finally obtained my antibiotic medicine and have begun taking it.
