Budget Movers Failed Us

Don't use Budget Movers, they proved that the customer is not what they care about. During our move in February 2017, a small plastic bright colored case holding my entire savings was taken from my purse at our new home (I have a picture of me walking into the house with the case in my purse). Other than my siblings and my grand niece, the only other people to enter my house that evening were the men from Budget Movers. I thanked them, paid and tipped them well. I didn't discover that the case was gone until the next morning. I had kept my savings safely close by me during the move, until I set my purse down to help direct placement in all the rooms. After much searching, I reported the loss of over $4000 to the police. The police were great. They followed up with Budget Movers, who refused to address the issue, saying that they use third party contractors, so the company wasn't responsible for my loss. Later one of the movers called me personally to say I shouldn't keep that much money at home anyway. Of course, they were saying it was my fault that it had been stolen. My siblings, the only others who were in the house, are all retired and do not need or want my money, and I would trust my grand niece with my life. I have no doubt that it was one of the men from Budget Movers who took the case. I lost my entire savings, and Budget Movers couldn't care less. I'm over the hurt & anger, but I feel that it's my responsibility to tell others - Don't make the same mistake I did by hiring Budget Movers.

First, I would like to say that I am very sorry for customer's loss. Second, I would like to state the corporate office’s point of view to help bring clarity to where we stand. Our company prides itself with getting the most qualified movers to service our customers. The driver/foreman who oversaw the move is one of the franchise owners and has been with us for many years. He is deeply invested in the company, and we have never heard of anything like this happening on his moves before. This same driver/foreman has reported that he has had his helper working for him for quite some time now and does not suspect any foul play out of him either. His helper was questioned over the incident by his foreman as well as the investigating officer. When the customer had paid the movers and tipped them upon the services being completed it would seem most likely that that this missing case would have been noticed and not a day later. Especially if this case was concealed in the customer's pocketbook. The fact that the customer did not notice this case missing till the following day puts much doubt as to whether the movers had anything to do with it missing in the first place. To be honest, from corporate's stand point on the issue, it seems highly unlikely that either one of the movers would even think about jeopardizing their job and getting caught on site. Keep in mind, the movers would have no knowledge that this case even existed until possibly the very end of the move when you grabbed your pocketbook to pay them for services rendered. Only the customer, and other family members and friends in her home would have had any knowledge that this case even existed. There’s too many variables and there’s simply no way for anyone to know for sure what really happened. Furthermore, as you know, people are still innocent until proven guilty. As a company, we can’t go around pointing fingers and firing people without solid proof especially when this same crew has received many praises from customers throughout the years. Based on the police officer’s investigation as well as our own there seems to be no evidence of foul play of any kind during the duration of this move. Company policy is that money, jewelry, medicines, and the like should not even be left in plain sight in the areas where the movers are working in or around. In other words, the company should not be put into the position where its workers could even be accused of such a thing and everyone is left wondering. Again, we are very sorry for the customer's alleged loss and it is not our intention to make excuses. But there are way too many variables to be able to insinuate a theft without a shadow of doubt. For it very well could have been misplaced or perhaps even lost at some point, stolen by a family member/friend, or the claim is not legit at all, etc. I pray that everyone will understand corporate’s point of view in the matter.
