Polite and helpful, but a bad deal for me
I have to lead by saying TCC, whom I found through AAA, was very courteous to me, and they did not actually perform repairs on my car -- but that's because I went elsewhere based on price.
I requested a quote regarding damage to my transmission fluid pan, and the quoted price to replace damage using OEM parts was actually ~50% higher than that quoted by the dealership. I then found a transmission shop that offered to do it for 40% LESS than the dealership using pretty much interchangeable third-party parts (not surprising -- dealerships come at a premium because of the customer service and work guarantees, and they should have lower overhead thanks to supply chains and expertise). I asked for another quote using those aftermarket parts. TCC was only able to come down *to the original price offered by the dealership!*
TCC permitted me to have the car towed out to the transmission shop and only charged for the inspection. They did also offer a better warranty on the parts: 2y or 24k mi, as opposed to 90d or 4k mi. However, I'm kind of agog at the price difference -- why wouldn't I just take it to the dealership for that kind of money? Hopefully they'll be more competitive if I contact them in the future.
