Good but definitely not great experience with Specialty Draperies
Our main issue with Specialty is that they over-promised and under-delivered. This was an expensive experience that ended in less than the promised results. We truly like the people we dealt with. However, there was a huge oversight: They failed to let us know that the custom blackout shades they sold us on required perfectly level windowsills to work properly. Therefore, we ended up with quite a bit of light bleed at the bottom of each shade. We believe that we could have fixed the windowsill problem before installation, had we been told about this being necessary. But when they returned to check the problems, we were told in essence: "It's the fault of your windowsills - too late to fix that!" In addition, their installation left us with a great deal of work caulking, taping and otherwise plugging the other areas where light was coming through. And the shade they brought for a glass door was cut about a half an inch too narrow to block light fully, though this is a minor issue. Again, the people were nice, but seemed to blame us for the shortcomings in the outcome. We invested a great deal and it has helped - we like the shades so far. But the shades will never block the percentage of light promised when we invested in them. If you plan to work with Specialty Draperies, be sure to ask plenty of questions about any promises or guarantees they make.
