Oradell Animal Hospital

I felt I was the victim of a bait and swtich with the estimate

My 5 year old Pomeranian was transferred from Veterinary Emergency Group on 2.6.22 to Oradell Animal hospital ( because VEG does not have specialists) based on a quote of 6-8k from Oradell Animal hospital . They were aware that she had been diagnosed with cancer and that euthanasia had been recommended by VEG. Based on the estimate that Oradell provided to me through Veterinary Emergency Group (I do have this quote in writing) my dog was transported to Oradell Animal hospital. As soon as I got to Oradell Animal hospital they increased the high end of the estimate to over 10k. It was a 31% increase! This was not based on any further testing or change in diagnosis. There is no justifiable reason for this 31% in just several hours.

They knew once I was there that I could not remove my dog because she was oxygen dependent so I would have no choice, but to go along with the 31% increase. I believe that I was baited and switched since there is no justifiable reason for the big change in the estimate. They do this everyday. They should have been able to provide me with an accurate estimate initially. This tactic is very troubling and needs to be investigated. They are taking advantage of vulnerable pet owners. I believe they intended to lure me with the lower estimate and then up it as soon as I got there and no longer had a choice due to my dog's oxygen dependence. I purchased an oxygen concentrator, through pawprints oxygen, as soon as I could and brought my dog home. Since then she has very sadly has passed away. My dog was a show dog and a tv star.

I have asked repeatedly for a meeting with the hospital administrator and made it clear that I wish to discuss this very troubling issue and the hospital administrator has ignored me which I find suspicious. This cannot be allowed to continue. I am sure I am not the only one that this type of bait and switch has happened to.

I hope that anyone who has faced the same situation will file a complaint with the attorney generals office. As if they get a lot of the same types of complaints they will investigate.
