DISHONESTY BUSINESS
BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!!!! We have been taking our dog Lola to West Alabama Animal Vet since she was a puppy, but I can no longer recommend them in good faith. We went about 3 weeks ago for her regular shots and I had a few questions about allergies. Instead of responding to my request for a blood allergy test the vet told us that she heard a heart murmur. Keep in mind, during times of COVID, we waited in our car while Lola was shuttled into the clinic. A few minutes later the Dr. Martinez, the vet, was on the phone telling us she highly recommends an echo/cardiogram for our dog (cost of about $500-$700). According to the vet, the sound was very, very slight but it could definitely be a murmur.
Despite my reluctance we had the test done so that my husband would feel more secure. He's never had a dog before so he was extremely stressed when he heard the prognosis. West Alabama has a traveling cardiologist that comes once per week to test the animals. I was just curious how often this vet comes to do these tests. I began to wonder if this is a pretty nice revenue stream so I sent an email and asked. A member of their staff responded to me email said, oh we do 6-10 of these a week at least. WOW!!!! You do the math- that 's an easy $3300-5500 in revenue just for precautionary heart echos Next thing I know we're paying a $550 vet bill to find out that Lola is absolutely fine AND i still know nothing about her allergies.
I will be pulling my dog from West Alabama's care due to the dishonestly and terrible feeling I have now. PLEASE DON'T FALL VICTIM TO THIS. I know that it's a hard time for business all over, but West Alabama Animal Clinic Should be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of worried pet parents just to bump business.
