August Roofing

The quality of the roofing job was great, and so were the solar panels - but there needed to be better communication, particularly on the solar panel installation

We first met Walter, the salesman for August Roofing, at a home improvement show. He was outstanding! He listened well, and he explained things well. He was very professional, and we were quite impressed with him! He even suggested that we change to a lighter color roofing. So, we asked the company to install a new roof and solar panels for us. The quality of the physical work on the roof was excellent. The roofers were all wonderful, and they went above and beyond the call of duty for us. They did the work quickly, and they were very professional! The roof looks great. After they finished, it was time to install the solar panels. "Tee" was the man who did that work. Once again, the actual work was fine. The problems and issues centered around communication miscues. I am very sensitive to sound, so I planned to be gone during the roofing work. Once I was given a starting time, I called around and planned for people to take me away from the work. I do not drive, so I had to rely on others. Just when I got that scheduled, fifteen minutes later, August Roofing called me and wanted to change the time. So, I had to reschedule all my plans and my helpers' plans. This was a minor-ish thing, but still a bit frustrating. The solar panel installation was much more chaotic. Tee was scheduled to come out when we got back from vacation. But, the day we got back, we got a late-night call that the solar panels would be delivered the next day. We thought we had that rescheduled, but the panels came in the next day nonetheless. So, we all decided to store them in the garage. My husband then had to go on a trip, so we scheduled the work for after he got back, so he could better understand the system. Tee showed up the day before my husband got back, but I went ahead and let him install them. Then, after the panels were installed, we discovered that a "planner" from the city should have been involved from the first, and also SoCal Edison, the power company. Some of that red tape is still ongoing. We also discovered that our reimbursements for the solar panels did not all come the first year, but were spread out. So basically, all these issues were communication issues. As I said before, the actual physical was great, but more attention needs to be paid to communication and paperwork requirements.
