Car Shield: A Living Nightmare
This has been the most nightmarish warranty claims process I have ever experienced. Car Shield failed me when I needed them the most.
My air conditioning went out in the middle of summer during 100-degree weather. I took my car to the repair shop I have trusted for many years, European Auto Werks, expecting my warranty to make the repair process easier. Instead, it became a frustrating maze of delays, misinformation, and endless hoops.
An adjuster initially told my repair shop that all they needed was one photo and the work order. Then Car Shield changed the requirements and requested approximately 15 photos, videos, and detailed diagnostic notes. My repair shop promptly submitted everything that was requested.
A Car Shield representative then called the shop to confirm they had received all of the photos, videos, and documentation and stated that my claim would be approved so my repair could proceed.
That approval never came.
Instead, once the repair shop was transferred to the next department, another representative requested even more photos and videos. No one could explain why we had been told the claim would be approved after Car Shield had already confirmed receipt of everything they requested. This wasn't a failure on the part of my repair shop. It was Car Shield repeatedly changing the rules after confirming they had what they needed.
With my rental reimbursement about to expire after just one week, the shop requested that Car Shield send an inspector to personally inspect the vehicle. Even that became another obstacle. After multiple transfers, the representative couldn't even schedule the inspection. Instead, the shop was told that someone else would call back within 24 to 48 hours just to schedule the appointment. Then we would have to wait again for the inspection, the report, and another approval decision.
The entire process has been hoop after hoop after hoop.
They ask for photos. You send them.
They ask for videos. You send them.
They ask for diagnostic notes. You send them.
They confirm they have everything and tell you the claim will be approved.
Then they come back and ask for even more.
Meanwhile, your rental reimbursement continues to run out because of delays that are completely outside of your control.
Throughout this entire process, European Auto Werks submitted everything Car Shield requested while spending hours on the phone trying to get my claim approved, only to be met with misinformation and representatives contradicting one another.
On July 22, 2026, I spoke with a supervisor who admitted she could not expedite my claim, could not authorize an extension of my rental reimbursement, and could not get the inspector to the shop any sooner. When I asked what she could do, her response was essentially, "Not much."
Then came what I consider the most telling part of this experience.
Instead of focusing on resolving my claim, I received a call asking whether I would remove my negative reviews in exchange for a $10 reduction in my monthly payment. My answer was no. I told CarShield that I would not remove my reviews unless my claim was approved and my rental reimbursement was extended. To me, that conversation suggested that addressing public criticism had become a higher priority than resolving the very problems that caused the criticism in the first place.
I purchased this warranty for peace of mind. Instead, I experienced misinformation, repeated documentation requests after confirmation that everything had been received, unnecessary delays, poor communication, and a claims process that added stress at a time when I simply needed my vehicle repaired.
When this ordeal is finally over, I cannot get far enough away from Car Shield. Based on my experience, I would never recommend this company to anyone considering an aftermarket warranty.
