Clogged drain

Yesterday called Ostrom to have a clogged drain snaked. They arrived promptly and informed us it would be $400. We questioned why the price was so high. They said they could do it for $340 if we signed an annual contract at $9.95 per month. We decided to pass on both offers and call someone else. We were made to pay $38 for the service call. Had they informed us of their charges we would have told them not to come. We then called Rooter-Out who arrived at 8:20 the next morning and had the clog cleared in less than an hour. Total charge: $180. I'm happy we waited until the next morning as we saved $220. Snaking a drain is not rocket science and Ostrom's charges are outrageous.

Something to consider. Not all service companies are created equal. We have seen for example companies advertising plumbing services that do not hold plumbing licenses, there are many small companies who do not carry workers comp on themselves, what this means is if they don’t perform as promised you have limited recourse and if they get hurt on the job you may end up paying for it. Many companies do not invest in their employees; many do not even report earning and pay taxes.
