Hearing Doctors

Review from James Longmore

Linda E. Himler, Au.D. I consulted to evaluate my hearing loss occurring over many years. I had been exposed to a broad range of harmful noises. Having difficulty communicating with my family precipitated my seeking an audiologists opinion on whether or not I was a candidate for hearing aids. I received a thorough evaluation which indicated I had bilateral hearing deficits but in one ear it was consistent with a possible treatable cause and she needed another test to determine this. She referred me to an ENT Specialist who agreed with her finding and performed that test which the Specialist concluded did not show what they believed could be a treatable cause in one ear. This clarification gave Dr. Himler the belief that I could be helped with hearing aids. She discussed the various hearing aids that would best fulfill my needs and I selected the one I felt would do this.
She educated me on my hearing loss and how to live with it. She answered my questions and when my hearing aids arrived tentatively programed them for my specific needs. I was scheduled for follow-up visits at which time I discussed how I was doing. If she felt changes in the initial programming would be helpful she would do that.
Wisdom indicates that we should be aware that a certain amount of hearing loss can be prevented and do what we should do to do that. Hearing aids can improve hearing but have to be worn to do that. It takes time to improve upon what has taken years to create but will never be as good as we would like.
I know that Dr. Himler has done a good job in my evaluation and would select her again. I look forward to our interacting on issues that come up.
