Everyone Was Polite, Respectful and Caring

I had a great experience with Floorgem Services and I'm actually in the process of calling them back to get another room done. What we did was take up the carpeting in our living room and our hallway to reveal the hardwood floors beneath. My husband and I are both in our 70s and are retired. My husband has had a number of falls this past year that resulted in serious fractures. He had not tripped on the carpet in those cases, but I was worried that he might in the future because we noticed the carpet was loose and starting to ripple. We knew there were hardwood floors underneath because we've been in house for 50 years and put the carpets in ourselves. In the process of trying to make the house safer for him and out of concern that he might trip on the rippled carpeting, I decided it was time to pull carpeting up.

I took estimates from four different companies, and Ken's company stood out by far in comparison to everyone else. Everything he promised me, he delivered on, including giving me a phone number at which I could contact them whenever I needed. During the time the floors were being redone my husband experienced another fracture, and it was a very stressful time for me because I had to move him to a hotel nearby and I was driving back and forth between the hotel and the house to supervise what was going on here. Every single person from Floorgem was polite, respectful and caring. At one point they had a problem with their equipment that delayed their work. It was a Friday and they said they don't usually work on Saturdays but were still willing to come back the next day to finish the job.

The floors look beautiful. This house is over 60 years old and over the course of time we've had some things that damaged the floors even though they were covered with carpet. Once, for example, we had an ice dam that developed on our roof over the winter time and as the ice melted the water dripped in though the wall. Our granddaughter was the first to notice and told us "it's raining in the living room". Underneath the carpet, where the water was dripping, the floor had blackened with mold. The folks from Floorgem had to cut out that section of floor and replace it. They replaced it in a way that was aesthetically pleasing with the rest of the flooring, and everyone who has come into our home since the work was done has complimented the job.

My only reservation is that they said they would install transition strips in between the hardwood and tile floors, and they did that, but what they put down wasn't exactly what I needed. That was partly because of miscommunication on my end and I haven't followed up on that yet. The problem is that the strips they put down stick up a little bit and I'm worried about my husband tripping on it, so when they come back to do the bedroom I'm going to ask them to put in flatter transition strips.

From negotiating the contract on the phone to completing the job, I was very glad that I decided to go with Floorgem. The price was right in the middle of the quotes that we got and Ken is such a positive person that he was a pleasure to work with. I tell everyone that if you need floors redone you should go with them.
