Installer not prepared

Delivery/Installer was polite and arrived within the designated time. I, however, was disappointed the installer was not prepared with proper tools or parts and told by him they don't do anything other than the most basic installations. At point of sale the only question asked about the installation situation was "How many steps" When the installer arrived he informed me my old connections for the gas dryer were no longer approved and I would have to purchase the necessary items from him. He then also said what he had on his truck was not adequate and he would have to leave the installation incomplete. I said I would check the local store for parts and after driving to three stores finally got adequate parts to finish the installation and make it back before the installer left. I also brought out my tools for him to complete the installation. He then installed my parts and his and then charged me an additional fee for his installation. My complaints are as follows. #1 The installer arrived unprepared with necessary tools and parts and would have left without completing the installation had I not made the effort to acquire necessary parts and tools. #2 I was still charged an additional fee after he used my tools and time to pick up parts he needed. #3 I was charged a fee to haul away my old appliance which could be sold for recycled materials use. #4 After the installer finished he did not check gas fittings for leaks.

I understand how frustrated you must feel with how the installation appeared to be handled. However, during our sales process we require our sales consultants to complete a delivery guideline form to assist our installers. Our delivery guideline form asks for very specific information about your home and the installation location. We inform all of our customers that we handle routine delivery and installations. We also write on our guidelines that we are not carpenters, plumbers, or electricians. The plumbing in your home wasn't a standard size. Our installer offered to wait at your residence to assist you with the installation if you found the right plumbing fixture locally. Our installer waited for you to return with the appropriate fixture without charging you any additional money for his time. The only additional fee you were charged was for a gas line to hook up your dryer. Our installer checked the gas fittings while he was hooking up the appliance. I apologize that you feel we didn't go above and beyond to assist you with you dryer installation. However, my records indicate that my installer waited for over an hour to try and complete the unusual hookup on your dryer. I hope this response will add a little clarity to how far we will go to satisfy our customers'.
Sincerely,
John Shepherd
