AJR Wallboard & Plastering

Poor quality

This is the 2nd time I have used AJR Wallboard & Plastering. I used them 2 years ago to wallboard and plaster a 13x11 room. I'm pretty handy and picky and as expected I had to touch-up/smooth a lot of areas back then. This recent home renovation project was a living room double the size to 23x14. Honestly, I called a couple of other Wallboard vendors but AJR was the only one to give me a quote. He came to the house and the visit was only 10 minutes as needed. I actually had to call him a few days later to bug him for the quote. On the day of the job: The crew came in and in one day put up the wallboard in the morning and in the afternoon applied the plaster. They seem like nice guys and I recognize them as the crew from 2 years ago. I'm not sure why they think it is reasonable to play "loud" music on their boombox. It was impossible for me to get my work done (work from home) but I didn't want to complain because I wanted them to be happy as they perform the job. The dust was fairly contained UNTIL they removed the fan from the window, removed the plastic barrier THEN proceeded to sweep the floors. Dust was everywhere! Crazy huh? A day later I noticed what I thought was a barely visible line in the ceiling plaster, but thought it was a shadow. Well by the next day there were hairline cracks on half the wallboard joints on the walls and ceiling! Then screws were beginning to cause bumps and cracks as well. I called AJR and a few days later they sent a nice gentleman back to make an attempt to fix. He scored each crack with a knife then filled the cracks with a different compound mixture. For the next 2 weeks following their attempt I spent hours and hours and hours trying to fix the cracks. We are talking about 9 or more four foot long cracks. Applying joint compound, sanding, applying joint compound, sanding, on and on and on. Also, the cracks were not just cracks but had actually raised up. At this moment I have painted the ceiling with 2 coats, primed the walls, applied my trim molding. Throughout the day as light comes through the windows I get angry as I am so, so disappointed with the results. AJR charged me $3,400 for this job. It sucks. Oh, one more thing, while they were here I had them fix 2 cracks from the job they did 2 years ago.

We gave this customer a 5 star job. We had our top employees on it, and it came out outstanding. The reason for the cracks is because he removed a support beam from the middle of the room, which compromised the structural integrity of the room. When he called us back over to fix it, he informed us that there was a beam there previously, and we told him that was the cause of the cracks. We also gave him instructions to not turn the heat up while the plaster was curing, which he didn't follow. This job was completed back in November and this is the first we've heard of this.
