Service guy was excellent did his job quickly and effiecently

However: There are a number of things which I feel put me in an untenable situation. I was told that my coil (in the attic) had a leak and it should be replaced. The cost would be around $800 if I replaced it before September 2014 if I were to wait longer it would cost about $3,000. This is because the coil is under guarantee from the time it was installed, the guarantee runs out in September. BUT if I purchased the coil at $800 it too will not be guaranteed beyond September and if it failed I would be screwed.

Furthermore I do not understand why I now hove a working A/C system when there is a leak in the coil - If it leaks then it should not cool. Frymire is a large organization and should be able to resolve any issue with the manufacturer of the coil and not leave me exposed to an untenable choice.

Thank you first for complementing our technician's service and for using Frymire Services. Regarding your concern about the evaporator coil - it is accurate that the coil will be out of the Lennox five year warranty this year, before September. The warranty price to replace now is our price for labor and miscellaneous materials, not for a new evaporator coil. When the coil goes out warranty, Frymire has to purchase a new evaporator coil. Lennox is very strict regarding its warranty policies and unfortunately, we are not in the position to leverage concessions from the manufacturer.

In respect to why your system is still able to provide cooling, it appears the leak is not very large and the refrigerant is dissipating over a period of time. We added refrigerant last summer as well as this summer. Your system will cool so long as there is sufficient amount of refrigerant, but eventually the leak will likely expand and the system will not hold sufficient charge to last a summer. At any rate, you are losing cooling capacity and energy efficiency now and you risk the loss of your compressor.
