Very Dishonest - but prefessional

Let me start by saying, that this company is professional. That being said, I would have to say that they are inherently dishonest. I had a small flood downstairs in my finished basement. I simply needed an extraction before any of the walls got damages. I called them because they had decent reviews and they are a few blocks from my house. I didn't call other because, they told me they would be there in about an hour. Finally, about 4 hours later their sales man (owner) showed up. It started with the dog and pony sales speech about how much of a hassle it would be to do myself. I sat and ignored the obvious attempts to scare the homeowner because I knew what I wanted, I was just waiting for the price. Finally, the manager/owner got to the point. I made it clear that I was not using insurance and he quoted me at $400 to $600 dollars. To me, that wasn't cheap, but I didn't want to do the work myself. Also, if it was much higher, I simply would have changed the one carpet that took the brunt of the damage and would have a new carpet in the room for much less. Let's go over the numbers on the bill which was $1855, but a discount was giving to drop it to $1,113.58. 1. Emergency Service = $50. This was an emergency, but the call was at noon, and it took them 4 or 5 hours to show up, then another couple hours to start the work. 2. Lift carpet for drying = $53.04. Ok, fair enough. 3. Cleaning and Remediation supervisor = 5hrs x $55 = $275. Basically, some guy was paid to watch low paid laborers. $55/hr, really?? I doubt this guy got paid more than $15/hr. 4. Labor - Skilled = 2 people x 5hrs x $28 = $280. I am pretty sure that these guys were minimum wage and definitely no skill at all involved. There is more costs coming, but how could he have underestimated so much, when labor alone already took up the full estimate. So, I am about 100 sure that the owner/manager knew the cost was going to be much higher and simply lied to get the job. Lets' continue: 5. Air Mover = 3 qty x 3 days = $255. You can rent brand new movers from any rental place for 3 days for about $150 max, probably less. 6. Dehumidifier. 3 days = $333. You can rent a profession grade dehumidifier for 3 days for about $100. 7. Equipment set-up, takedown, and monitoring = 4 hrs x $42 = $168. Really?? in addition to all the labor exorbitant equipment rental and $42/hr. 8. Lay existing carpet - labor only = $112. I assume this is the carpet stretching and is probably in the right range. 9. Carpet Cleaning: $119. An average price to clean a couple rooms. 10.Apply Anti-microbial agent. $97.92. It was an up-sale, that I may not have needed, but agreed to anyway. 11.Water extraction from floor - Cat 1 - Heavy. $142.80. Nice double charge, since labor and equipment were already charged. 12. Good Guy Discount 40. Hmm, the audacity: Come in with a bill between 3 and 4.5 times what was estimated, and then say there are good guys for lowering this to only 2 to 3 times the original estimate. Nice. All those numbers are "insurance mandated pricing". I was clear about not using insurance. This mandate was only important so they can over charge people. My conclusion is that they knew they were going to charge much more, but lied to get the sale. Again, they were professional and did good work, but they are just a dishonest company.
