20% Mark Up

When I called to make an appt, Jennifer explained that if the handyman had to go and buy something for my jobs, he'd be on the clock and I'd pay for his time. Understood. She did not tell me that Mr.Handyman adds a 20% mark-up on anything they buy. When I was presented with my final bill there was no itemization of the materials the fellow had purchased for me--only a too-high amount. When I asked for a breakdown, he couldn't supply one and only then told me: "Well, you know there's a 20% mark up." The work done was uneven. I would not use them again and I would not recommend.

I have reviewed this situation with my staff to be sure that everything was done correctly, and also left you a message, as I was hoping to speak with you directly to be sure I fully understand your concerns.

After looking over the invoice and speaking with the tech, I see that the item that the only item we purchased was a storm door and that information is included on the invoice. The tech neglected, however, to make note of the items he used from his truck, such as a paint roller cover and brush.

There are several reasons we must mark-up materials we purchase for use on your home; primarily, we are now the seller of the door, and therefore, we are responsible for providing the warranty on the item. If there is a manufacturers defect, it is incumbent upon us to take the door back to the store, get a replacement and install it for you free of charge. That would not be the case if you had purchased the door yourself - our warranty would only be on the quality of the installation, not on the door itself. Many people choose to purchase the materials from us for this exact reason.
