Floor Coverings International of Jupiter, FL

Not a pleasant experience overall.

I had a floor that was coming up and buckling a little bit. My entire extended family was coming to my house for the holidays, so in the middle of November I hired a handyman person to fix the floor so it would be okay. He took some stuff out and nothing was put back together, so I needed to get a whole new floor on a time frame. I went to Floor Coverings International of Jupiter and the guy there showed me some stuff. He said it could be dome in that time frame, but what he didn't explain to me when I was picking the flooring was that because the floor that I picked was thicker, the entire baseboard had to be changed out afterwards. He did say afterwards that was included in the price, though.

They sent somebody in to do the tear out and that was fine. Then the guys came to put the floor in and they were putting it in so the pattern was all wrong. We mentioned that to them while they were doing it. We figured they were the professionals and knew what they were doing, but asked them about it. They didn't speak that great English and were just smiling and nodding. When the manager came by he could see exactly what we were talking about. He had them come back and fix it, but it's still not as good as it should have been. We would have had to rip it out and start over. But it was kind of fixed.

Then they started with the baseboards. The same guys did the work. I came home from lunch and I've cut baseboards, so I know how to do it and I know how to do it well. They were cutting them too long. I told one of the guys that it has to be shorter and it's going to buckle the wood the way he was cutting it. He said, "No, no, no" and drove more screws through it. That was really annoying, because they're doing work for me and I'm telling them as they're doing it that that's not how I want it to be done, but they're not listening to me.

Of course, the owner is nowhere in sight. He had said that the guy who normally does this had been injured, so my job was a little bit delayed and now I have these other people coming in and doing it. When he did come I showed him and they kind of fixed it, but to really fix it they would have had to rip them out. Because by now they've caulked and painted. I would have had to get new baseboards. It does look good, but it's not right. On the other wall the caulking was separated out and my painter stuffed it full of caulk. It's sloppy work. A bunch of boards have tiny bubbles where they forced them in.

This was back in November or December of last year. I had to have it done before all this family came. I was working full time, my father was in hospice, and somebody else I had been taking care of had just died, so it was a very stressful time for me already. I'm not generally a complainer, but I'm not going to give them a good review. It's not that great quality of flooring. Already some edges are starting to wear and it's not even a year old yet. When you spend that much money on a floor, you hope to walk on it for fifteen years or so.

I wish they had just cut it right the first time instead of stuffing it with caulk. It would be excessive to have them come and rip it out and redo it, but it's still sloppy work, especially on the hardwood. Overall, I'm happy with how the floor looks. It's way better than the one I had before. But it was an emergency replacement and it's not as good as I thought it would be quality-wise and the baseboards are a disaster from my point-of-view.
