What I found in the process of dealing with Westside Transmission was that mechanics don't give an estimate of what a transmission repair will cost. Repair shops in general don't give you what it is finally going to cost you because they have to open it all up and look inside, and there is such a big range.

I really felt like I didn't have many options when I broke down in LA from out of town and went with Westside based on their reviews. They were very polite and very professional, but I would have appreciated my car being washed in the service. I also noticed the console in the middle of my car had been bumped loose. They smoked cigarettes all around and near my car, and it smelled strongly of cigarette smoke when I picked it up. A lot of shops will clean the car for me. That part blows your mind, because that's the courteous thing to do. When you're paying almost $3000 for labor like I did at Westside, I mean come on! I would expect that.
