expensive french drain project
Recently had Black Diamond install french drain system and sump pump. I was a little surprised they did nothing to protect the french drain piping that sits 3-4 feet underground. I'm no professional but from everything I have heard about these systems important to wrap the pipe in some type of fabric to prevent the soil or silt from clogging the perforated pipe from clogging over time. It was an expensive project and I assumed I was paying for proper materials for the job. They also used gravel from my property that I had already paid for with a landscaping contractor to fill in the trench. The gravel was heavily mixed in with soil so when the trench was filled it wasn't even clean gravel. Very curious to see how this job holds up or if we will be right back in the situation of trapped ground water around our home. I was also a bit surprised they didn't haul any extra soil away from the job site, rather they just left it there. I'm sure that will accrue another expense to have it hauled away. All I can say, it's a good thing they guarantee their work because I have a feeling they will be back, and next time my landscaping will be complete so the job will be much harder. One last note, the employee I mostly worked with, George, was good to work with. Not sure on some of the coworkers names but I heard a few profanities in my backyard, not very professional in my opinion. When you hire professional help for a serious issue, you expect good results and place your trust in their opinion/advice on how to handle the job. I sure hope their work holds up but I fear the french drain will fail much faster than it should.
