bait and switch tactics horrible experience
Personal experience- I needed 6 month accommodations and came across this site.
1-UNIT THEY RENTED ME DID NOT COME ANYWHERE CLOSE TO WHAT IS ADVERTISED ON WEBSITE. I arrived on a Sunday at 5:50 pm and I did not inspect the unit before signing all the paperwork. I was tired from driving in from California, staff had to leave at 6 pm so we rushed through the paperwork. I did not honestly consider that the units advertised on the website would differ from the unit I was signing the lease for. BIG MISTAKE. Instead of a tile floor and nice unit carpets in my unit were filthy, unit was dark and very antiquated decor. Bathroom was tiny and shower door set up meant you could get seriously injured climbing in and out in my opinion (IMO). IMO Cookware was of very poor quality. No dishwasher. STAFF HAD LEFT FOR THE DAY so I figured I would address this issue in the AM. Staff did not budge next day did not apology for the deception. I felt deceived and conned into sub standard housing.
2- About 3 weeks into my lease water leak from upstairs unit meant they had to repair my unit, replace drywall, ceiling in bedroom. Manager insisted that I live thru about 10-14 days of tarps dust and repairmen in and out of my unit and BEDROOM. Her logic was that "if it was your home that's what you would have to do". When I explained that was not true ( I happen to be in the insurance business) and that her demand was unacceptable and I would contact my lawyer she capitulated and assigned another unit.
3- New unit had defective Key Card Reader (KCR). I was locked out over 12 times including 4 each after hours. On one occasion after hours lock out service was out of service. I spent two hours in parking lot until the resident lock out team happened to walk by otherwise I would have had to call the fire department to break in to access my medication. Each time I reported faulty KCR staff blamed my cell phone credit cards or a magnet and my malfeasance, stupidly for not keeping cards separate. I am also a general contractor and easily determined KCR was broken. Instead of replacing the KCR unit they insisted it was my fault because the "master card" used by the lock out service opened the door, NOT TRUE. His master card DID NOT OPEN THE DOOR INDICATING a broken KCR. His Manual KEY almost did not work either! I FILMED THIS EPISODE ON MY SMARTPHONE.
After being locked out and wondering around the parking lot I had enough with the utter incompetence of staff and said so in no uncertain terms the following day. WOULD"T YOU? WOULDN'T ANYBODY? They finally changed the KCR and I HAVE'NT HAD ANY MORE ACCESS PROBLEMS LIKE I KEPT TRYING TO TELL THEM FOR OVER A MONTH THIS WAS THE SOLUTION! Apparently they found my complaint's offensive, intimidating and bullying and I heard from their attorney stating by letter if I spoke to the staff again I could face charges. If you are new to AZ be advised that once you sign the lease all the leverage is in the hands of the landlord and not the tenant IMO. You will have to lawyer up with this bunch IMO.
4- I have no problem dealing with attorneys or hiring one and SPS STAFF was not supposed to have any contact with me again. Instead I received IMO taunting and gloating emails about how in addition to the aforesaid, they had got even with me for having the temerity to simply want access to my unit 100% of the time. Not some of the time or on occasion. Wouldn't you want to be able to access your rental 100% of the time? EMAIL TAUNTS BY MANAGER WAS NOT PROFESSIONAL OR NECESSARY IMO.
5- A/C is is centrally controlled by MGT. MGT controls the temperature YOU WILL BAKE AND ROAST IN YOUR UNIT IMO. IMO it was rarely comfortable in my unit.
Based on my personal experience IMO the SPS business model is to bait and switch, get you to sign lease, and if you complain too much, they lawyer up and taunt by email (Which I have saved). Once you sign the lease they have most of the leverage over you IMO. So up to you this is my personal experience. Everything that I have posted is accurate truthful and I have the smartphone video proof of master key card not working or opening my unit and all the correspondence for YOUTUBE and all the other REVIEW SITES.
My suggestion is that you ask for the lease to review before you commit. If you still want to stay here to avoid the bait and switch trap SPS adroitly employs IMO, ask to see the unit they intend on renting you. NOT THE MODEL ON WEBSITE OR "EXAMPLE" MODEL BUT THE ACTUAL UNIT. Then if you like unit make sure the unit number is posted on the contract before you sign. As far as other problems about key card malfunction, having to deal with an attorney, A/C not working well enough to provide comfort etc DO YOU REALLY WANT TO DEAL WITH THIS?!!!!!!
